Tonight I am listening to one of my all-time favorite bands— The Nils.
If you ever loved The Replacements, Husker Du, Doughboys, The Meat Puppets, Superchunk, or any number of other 70s-80s-90s bands fronted by disheveled dudes in ragged flannels and crappy jeans, then you just might love The Nils. Formed in 1978, this little-known four-piece from Montreal, Quebec influenced them all.
Alex Soria, you might be gone but you're definitely not forgotten. While I can't say I listen to much "pop-punk" these days, The Nils never feel dated or corny. To think you began writing these songs as a 13-year old kid... It just makes me smile. Thank you for making my adolescence so much more bearable, pleasurable, and possible. Rest in peace.
This live footage of "Fountains" captures exactly everything I love about your music.
